Now that we’re well into this year’s Georgia Dawgs football season, everyone here at Nissan of Athens is pretty excited about the team’s success. Our Georgia Bulldogs fan-base is once again proving that we know how to bring the noise on Saturdays! After a close win over Missouri, UGA fans have a lot to be excited about, and here at Nissan of Athens, we can’t wait to attend the remaining home games. That’s why we want to share with our fellow Dawg Nation fans our ideas for how to have some good ol’ fashioned fun (well, some of these ideas are actually quite new) before game time. So, here are four ridiculously fun tailgating games that you can participate in at your next tailgate party. Oh, and Go Dawgs!

Tailgating Games

  1. Fowling:

Never mind the traditional cornhole and beerpong games – those have all been overplayed. FowlingWe’ve got a game that’s easy, fun and will test your skills at throwing a football too. This can be a team game, or just between two players. Here’s how it works. First, you’ll need a little bit of space to play since you’ll be throwing a football and trying to knock down some marked “pins.”  The pins you use can be made out of anything, including just making some using Solo cups. Second, mark your pins with the numbers 1, 2, 5, 10, and 25. There should be a single pin with 25 on it, two that have 10 marked on it, and at least three or four of the others. The point of the game is to throw the football and score a direct hit on one of the marked pins. The first player or team to reach 50 points without going over wins. Points are scored only for a direct hit, not a bounce or roll.

  2. Vert Pong:

Vert PongPing pong balls and Solo cups are a staple game for tailgating parties, but here’s a twist.
Take a board or sheet of hard foam insulation and attach the cups to it using tape or pins. The cups will be upright, just with their side attached to the board. Next, mark each with a point score – the higher the cup, the higher the points. Now either bounce or toss (depending on the surface available) the ping pong ball into the cups. It’s actually a lot harder than it seems! First team to 21 wins. Of course this game can be played as a beer-drinking game if desired, or kept family friendly and just played for highest score.

  3. Kings:

Card games are a great alternative if you’re limited in the space you have available to tailgate. A great tailgating card game is called Kings. There are many variations of Kings, but typically it is played as a beer drinking game. The game starts out with a cup in the middle of the table, and six or more piles of cards aligned around the cup. Players draw a card from any of the piles on the table, and perform an action based on the card they’ve drawn. Different actions can be assigned to the cards, but standard actions include choosing a player or players to take X number of drinks, raising of hands when a certain card is drawn – the last to do so drinks, naming a word that each successive player must make a rhyme with, etc. However, drawing a king is always the same action. For the first three kings drawn, the player must poor a portion of his drink into the cup in the center. The player who draws the last king drinks the cup – and presumably wins.

  5. Kan Jam:

If you’ve never played KanJam, then prepare to have your mind blown to bits. It’s the ultimate tailgating game because it involves skill, a bit of athleticism, some aggressive trash talk and a drink in hand. Kan Jam requires two teams of two and a Kan Jam set, which you could try to make yourself, or you could just be a normal person and buy it online. Essentailly, the object is to toss the frisby through the mouth of the goal, hit the goal or shoot it into the top opening of the goal. It’s more of a collaborative game than Cornhole because your teammate can redirect your shot into the top of the goal. To make this a drinking game, simply require that all players must hold a drink at all times, and must drink the corresponding amount of seconds that matches the points scored after each throw.

As our Georgia Bulldogs head into the remainder of the season, we wish them the best of luck. We also hope the true Dawg fans out there will support our team with a great showing of pride and team spirit. Have fun trying these four ridiculously fun tailgating games and cheer our Bulldogs on to victory. And if you choose to drink playing these addicting tailgating games, make sure you do it responsibly. Go Dawgs!
