What is Nissan ProPilot

It’s countdown for the Nissan ProPILOT Assist technology. Nissan just revealed that it’s getting ready to launch its new technology in the US later this year. And it also plans to add this technology to more models in China, Japan and Europe. From assisting with braking and steering to acceleration, this technology does it all. It’s a hands-on driver system instead of a self-driving system. Driving just got more intelligent.

How It Works

The ProPILOT Assist is designed to be user-friendly and highly intuitive. It helps reduce driver fatigue, especially for those road warriors in heavy highway traffic. It utilizes sensors, an electronic control module, forward-facing camera and radar to help drivers maintain speed, distance and in-lane driving. Plus, it can slow the car down to a complete stop during traffic jams.

The driver’s input is always first, and the system can go into a temporary stand-by mode. It has the ability to track curving lanes. According to Yamaguchi, “Nissan’s new ProPILOT Assist eases driver workload by reducing the amount of driver acceleration, steering and braking input under certain driving conditions. To activate the system, the driver simply pushes the blue ProPILOT Assist ON button, which is integrated into the right-side steering wheel spoke. Step two is to set the Intelligent Cruise Control when the desired speed is reached, as with a normal advanced cruise control.”

With its steering assist, detection is provided with a torque sensor. The driver is alerted when to apply more pressure or a lighter grip on the wheel. Steering assist is also canceled if the wipers are in a high or low position.

What are drivers saying about the ProPILOT Assist technology? Drivers have remarked that the ProPILOT Assist technology makes driving easier and more enjoyable. There’s just less to do and think about. Finally, driving is made a whole lot easier. All around, this new technology leads the road to the next level of autonomous driving.
