Let’s face it; car pricing has become a lot more transparent in recent years due to all of the resources available to car buyers on the internet. However, it still feels like car dealerships have nonstop sales and specials that save you thousands of dollars. They’re often advertised as “CAN’T MISS” sales that you won’t see again. But how are you supposed to know if it really is the time? To help you sort through the waves of advertising in the automotive industry, Nissan of Athens wants our customers to know when the best time to buy a vehicle really is.

Best Time of the Year: December or March

As the holidays quickly approach, a lot of folks are thinking of buying a new car to brighten the season. The end of the year is also a great time to get your best deal due to the following reasons:

  • Car dealers want to make room for the new models
  • Car dealerships attempt to hit their year-end sales goals, so they offer great deals
  • Dealers are more willing to negotiate at year’s end

Dealerships will often do almost anything to unload their inventory of the last year’s models. And it’s not just last year’s models that go on sale at the end of the year. Many car manufacturers will offer special incentives and pricing on the coming year’s models as well, since they want to sell as many cars as possible before the year ends. Dealerships have sales goals to meet, so they’ll often give you incredible deals to hit their goals.

At year’s end, inventory of the past year’s models may run low, and shoppers may occasionally have trouble finding the exact vehicle they’re looking for. In the case of Nissan, waiting until March could be a good idea for these folks. March is Nissan’s fiscal year-end, so, just as in December, Nissan pushes to reach it’s sales goals, offering great deals on many models. You’ll likely find inventory for that model year in abundance.

Best Time of the Month: Beginning or End

In addition to knowing the best time of year, it can also work to you advantage to know the best time of the month. Most people have heard that the last few days of the month are a great time a car. That’s because both the dealership and the sales people are up against sales quotas that they must meet – giving car buyers the upper hand in negotiating their best price. But it’s also helpful to note that there is often better selection at the beginning of the month. Price and inventory aren’t mutually exclusive, but you’ll generally secure a better deal at the end of the month and find slightly better selection at the start.

Best Time of the Week: Monday & Tuesday

As for the best days of the week to shop, Monday and Tuesday tend to be the days car buyers get the greatest deals. Why is that? Well, there tend to be fewer car shoppers on those days, giving sales people fewer opportunities to sell cars. As such, they may be more willing to negotiate. Plus, it makes for a more peaceful car buying experience with less shoppers around.

Best Time of the Day: End of the Day

If a sales person hasn’t closed a deal by the end of the day, they may be more willing to give you deeper discount to make the deal. That’s why the end of the day is often the best time.
