Redesigned 2016 Nissan Titan

Nissan Titan “Truckumentary” Videos Detail the Past, Present & Future of Nissan Trucks

As a tribute to the upcoming release of the completely redesigned 2016 Nissan Titan full-size pickup, Nissan has begun releasing a series of videos detailing its long and proud heritage of truck building. The first part of this series is hosted by Brent Hagan, Product Planner for the next generation Nissan Titan. Through these video segments, Brent and others will detail not only Nissan’s truck heritage, but the dedication and design work that went into creating the all-new 2016 Nissan Titan. See the first two videos right here!

Nissan has been building trucks here in the U.S. since 1983. The first vehicle to roll off the assembly line at the Smyrna Tennessee plant was a Nissan pickup. But Nissan has been selling pickups in America for a lot longer than that. One of the first vehicles imported to this country was a compact pickup sold under the Datsun name in 1959. Although it was small, it quickly built a reputation for durability and solid performance.

From Humble Beginnings

As a member of the new Nissan Titan design team and a die-hard truck enthusiast, Brent talks about how much the past success of Nissan trucks played a role in the design of the new Titan. Although there are few similarities between the trucks of 50 years ago and the astonishing new full-size Nissan Titan, the team did take some inspiration from the originals. The reliability, utility and performance of those vintage trucks have set the standard not only for Nissan, but for other truck makers to live up to.

Rugged off-road capability started with the Nissan Patrol in 1967 – a vehicle that was more powerful and more capable than just about any other off-roader of the time. Later Nissan truck models were raced in just about every off-road endurance race of the time, and even set world speed records at the salt flats in Bonneville. All of these accomplishments and this proud heritage went into the design of the next generation Nissan Titan – the most powerful and capable truck Nissan has ever built.

The Nissan Titan’s Evolution

Since it was first introduced in 2003, the full-size Nissan Titan has won the admiration of truck people everywhere. Its aggressive styling and innovative features, combined with a strong towing and payload capacity, made Titan an instant hit. It became as popular on the job site as it was pulling trailers and boats for weekend outings. The Nissan Titan was even nominated as North American Truck of the Year in 2004, its first full year of production.

But since its introduction, Titan has received relatively minor updates and refreshes – that is until now. A new and far more powerful Nissan Titan was introduced at the all-important Detroit Auto Show on January 12th 2015, and it figures to be one of the most talked-about trucks in a long time.

Here at Nissan of Athens, we’re waiting eagerly for the first new Titan trucks to be delivered later this year. Until then, we’ll keep posting updates and new video releases in the Nissan Titan “Truckumentary” series, so keep checking back truck fans!
