Being named as a finalist for any award is an honor, but when you’re nominated for the same award two years in a row for two different vehicles, you know you’re doing something right. Following in the footsteps of its big brother, the Nissan TITAN XD, the reinvented 2017 Nissan TITAN half-ton line-up has been selected as one of the three finalists for the 2017 North American Truck of the Year award. When you take a close look at the TITAN, it’s easy to see why the critics feel that it is a top choice in the truck category.

Bringing a lot to the Table

A massive number of options is what highlights the 2017 TITAN. Under the hood is a powerful V8 engine, producing 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque, with a smaller and more fuel-efficient V6 engine due along later in the year. Available as either two- or four-wheel drive, the TITAN can tow up to 9,730 pounds or carry a payload of up to 1,940 pounds, with different cabs or options packages lowering these numbers slightly.

Both a Crew Cab and Single Cab version are offered right now, with a King Cab version expected later in the year. This means seating for up to five, depending on the layout. Five different grade levels are offered as well, with the appropriate options – range from the S model, with basic, workman-like features that is at home on jobsites, up to the luxurious Platinum Reserve level. Individuals who like to head off-road will love the PRO-4X trim, one of the premier factory off-road packages.

Trucks are expected to be able to handle a heavy work load, and the TITAN is no exception – the standard and available cargo management features are some of the best in class. This includes bedliners and bed lighting, the Utili-track multi-channel cargo system, an in-bed power outlet, and available TITAN boxes. For the driver who needs to tow, and doesn’t always have a helper on hand for brake checks, the Trailer Light Check system allows you to check all brake light connections with the Nissan Intelligent Key. Behind all of this is Nissan’s “America’s Best Truck Warranty,” a 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with basic and powertrain coverage, and Nissan’s value-minded pricing.

Proven Award Winner

The 2017 Nissan TITAN already has a number of awards under its belt, and we expect that the North American Truck of the Year award will look right at home next to honors including:

  • 2017 “Full-size Truck of Texas” and “Commercial Vehicle of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association
  • “Best Value” by the Texas Auto Writers Association
  • “Extreme Off-Road” title from the Active Lifestyle Vehicle Awards

The North American Truck of the Year Awards

For 24 years now, journalists and critics from across Canada and the United States have been gathering at the annual North American International Auto Show to name a Car of the Year as well as the truck/utility vehicle of the year. These are not journalists loyal to a single magazine or other media source, but a panel of independent writers and producers that span the range of radio, magazines, web sites, and the rest of automotive journalism. Taking into account factors such as innovation, safety, performance, driver satisfaction, value, and more, they select three finalists, and name winner the day of the show.
