If you’re one of those devoted Apple iPhone users who love using their device in the car, this is going to come as excellent news. Nissan has announced plans to integrate the new Apple CarPlay platform into some Nissan vehicles beginning in the 2016 model year. What does this mean to iPhone users who drive Nissan vehicles? In fact, it means quite a lot.

The new Apple CarPlay system is a way to integrate all of the iPhone’s capabilities into the vehicle, using your Nissan’s own dash-mounted display and controls. That means no more fumbling for the device as it slips between the seats, no more looking down to check your navigation or maps, and fewer distractions overall – without giving up any of its famous functionality.

How Does Apple CarPlay Work?

Apple says that they have designed the CarPlay system to work with a vehicle’s built-in controls and display features. For Nissan drivers that means steering wheel-mounted controls as well as touchscreen controls will now allow them to interface with their iPhone – and see their apps and icons right on the dash display. It’s the easiest and safest way yet to get driving directions, make calls, listen to music, and anything else you use your iPhone for.

Apple CarPlay also lets you use Siri voice control to interface with your iPhone without ever taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. Imagine listening to turn-by-turn directions, checking traffic conditions around our Athens or Atlanta roadways, or even listening to your text messages – all without sacrificing safety. Now that’s something to get excited about.

What Else Can CarPlay Do?

Although Apple hasn’t provided all of the details on their new CarPlay system yet, we here at Nissan of Athens can imagine a whole lot of additional possibilities for the platform. For example, any app that you can load onto your iPhone device is likely be to be available when accessed through CarPlay. And that’s just the beginning. Think about all of the new apps that are likely to be developed for use inside your Nissan car, truck or SUV.

How Will CarPlay Work With Nissan Connect®?

The Apple CarPlay system is designed to integrate with all of the systems available inside your vehicle, including Nissan Connect®. You will have the ability to toggle back and forth from CarPlay to Nissan Connect, using all of the features from both systems independently. Think of it as an enhancement to the terrific Nissan Connect features and functionality that drivers love so much.

Here at Nissan of Athens we’re all very excited to see the new vehicles when they arrive with Apple’s CarPlay systems installed. It’s going to add a whole lot of safety and security to Nissan vehicles, which are already some of the safest on the road. It will also make the experience of driving your new Nissan that much better when you’ve got your personal soundtrack playing through your car’s high-end audio system. Nice!
