Nissan recently released a new Rogue in 2014, but an updated 2017 version is expected to hit dealerships in the near future. With a host of improvements set to revamp this already reliable crossover, it’s the perfect time to take a second look at the Nissan Rogue.
It’s Getting a Brand New Look
Information about the new 2017 Nissan Rogue is a little thin on the ground, but it seems the majority of improvements will be aesthetic ones. The bumpers and lights on both ends will be restyled, and the V-Motion grille will take its design cues from the newest Nissan Murano. The restyled Nissan Rogue promises to look even tougher and more aggressive on the road.
It’s interesting that the new Rogue’s grille looks like the Murano’s because the Rogue has always appeared more like the Pathfinder. Both vehicles have similar flowing lines, with a roofline that effortlessly moves into the lift gate and belt line. The lower body has a stylish, sculpted look and the alloy wheels add some extra sophistication. A spoiler, single exhaust tip, and gleaming LED headlights all add to the look.
Its Cabin is Smartly Designed

The Rogue’s cabin has always been one of the best designed. There’s plenty of space inside for motorists and their passengers, and the layout is technologically advanced, yet intuitive. Ergonomic touches, like the tilt and telescopic steering column and six-way power driver’s seat, are made for comfort. The two-analog display instrument cluster, with a tachometer on the left and speedometer on the right, is easy to read at a glance. All other driver functions are displayed digitally below these two dials. Steering wheel-mounted controls make it easy to customize your ride when you’re on the move.
Storage also isn’t a problem in the Nissan Rogue. The glovebox is larger than average, and there are spots for stashing personal items in the center console and doors. Four cup holders and four in-door bottle holders also help manage your road trip beverages.
It Delivers a Reliable Ride
The Nissan Rogue’s powered by a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder motor, which generates 170 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. These stats aren’t particularly impressive, but they’re more than capable for delivering you from Point A to Point B. This isn’t the car to blow the doors off the competition, but how often do you really want to do that anyway? The motor is functional and reliable, a sensible option for getting around town and escaping the rat race on weekends. Its ride is also smoother than you’ll find in many small crossovers, so it’s ideal for ferrying sleeping kids or simply enjoying a leisurely Sunday drive.
The Nissan Rogue’s quality engine combines with a host of tech features to make it one of the safest crossovers on the road. The 2015 Nissan Rogue received a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on its release. It received this honor, one of the IIHS’s most prestigious titles, for earning a “good” score in all five test categories. We can expect the 2017 Nissan Rogue to follow suit with similarly impressive safety credentials.
It Offers Superior Fuel Economy
By choosing a motor that’s sensible rather than sensational, Nissan’s made sure the Rogue delivers one of the best fuel economies you’ll see in this class. It’s EPA-rated at 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the open road. You’ll see significant savings on your fuel bill for the life of your car when you choose the Rogue over other crossovers.
You Have Plenty of Options
Nissan has always believed consumers should have the power to choose, so it sells a number of different Rogues at a variety of price points. The current version is available in S, SV, and SL editions, with recommended selling prices ranging from $23,140 to $28,540. Upgrade, and you’re treated to leather seats rather than the standard cloth, a high-quality 8-speaker Bose audio system, NissanConnect satellite navigation, and much more.
In an unusual step, Nissan has also continued to sell the S trim version of the previous Rogue, dubbing it the Rogue Select. Customers could save $3,000 if they choose it without the technological advancements introduced in the 2014 version. Only time will tell whether Nissan offers a similar pricing structure when it releases the 2017 Rogue. However, it’s almost certain there’ll be a Rogue to suit all tastes and budgets.
Whether you’re interested in the brand new 2017 model or a used version, the Nissan Rogue is one of the best crossovers around.
