Nissan has a long and proud history of building safe and reliable cars, trucks and SUVs. In recent years however, advances in technology have allowed Nissan safety engineers to design some of the safest vehicles that have ever been on the road. That’s why we at Nissan of Athens are proud to share the latest Nissan safety features with our Northeast Georgia customers.
Car buyers from all over the greater Athens area rely on us to give them accurate and straightforward information about the Nissan vehicles we sell. Drivers from Gainesville to Lawrenceville and Jefferson to Winder all want to know that they’re driving the safest vehicle possible. For this reason, we’ve put together a list of the best Nissan safety features available for the vehicles we sell.
Collision Avoidance (High-tech Warning Systems)
- Predictive Forward Collision Warning system. This is Nissan’s unique technology that gives drivers advance warning of a potential threat in front of the vehicle. Using a radar sensor, the system monitors the relative speed and distance of the vehicle directly in front of your car. If the distance is closing too quickly, a warning light will display, along with an audible alert. If the system determines a collision is imminent, it sends a signal to the seatbelt tensioners to tighten for impact.
- Multi-Sensing System with Rear Camera. This system uses Nissan’s 360-degree monitoring system to warn drivers of a potential hazard in their blind spot when changing lanes. An alert is sounded when the turn signal is activated and the vehicle begins to change lanes, if there is a hazard in the way.
- Lane Departure Warning system. Using the painted lane markers, a camera can detect if the vehicle is deviating from the lane without signaling a lane change. This prevents drivers from performing inadvertent lane changes, as well as alerting a driver who may be falling asleep at the wheel.
- Moving Object Detection system. This system uses Nissan’s rear view camera to check for objects that may move into the car’s path when reversing. If an object is in the vehicle’s path, a warning will sound notifying the driver. It also presents a colored guideline track that shows exactly where the vehicle will travel when backing up.
- Around View Monitor. Using four cameras mounted on the front, rear and both sides of the vehicle, the Around View Monitor gives the driver a virtual overhead view of the car’s position. This feature is mainly used in parking situations and can give drivers the extra comfort of seeing how close they are to other vehicles or hazards.
Collision Protection
- Advanced Air Bag System (AABS). Front, side and overhead airbags are a part of every Nissan vehicle sold today. In the event of a side impact, the side-curtain and overhead airbags will deploy, protecting the head and neck of passengers from the most serious injuries. Front airbags will also deploy in case of a collision, and their inflation rate is determined by the severity of the impact.
- Seatbelt pre-tensioners. In an effort to put the body into optimal position in case of a collision, the seatbelts will automatically tension when an impending collision is detected. This system works in conjunction with the other collision systems to force the driver and passengers into a fully upright position.
- Active headrest adjustment. In the case of a rear end collision, the active headrest restraint can help to reduce injury to the neck of both passengers and driver. It works by using sensors to detect a strong backward motion of the body, signaling the headrest to move forward and cradle the head as it moves backward. Nissan tests have shown a 45% reduction in severity of neck injuries due to rear end collision.
At Nissan of Athens, we believe very strongly in Nissan’s commitment to vehicle safety. We’ve seen the advances in technology applied to new Nissan vehicles just over the past few years, and recognize that Nissan cars, trucks and SUVs are some of the safest vehicles you can buy.
