2015 Nissan GT-R Preview
After driving the current model year Nissan GT-R, many of us were left wondering; what could possibly be improved? I mean this is one of the fastest, most agile supercars on the planet, and sells for a fraction of anything else close to it. How could Nissan engineers top this? Well, we have our answer.
The soon to be available 2015 Nissan GT-R has recently set a track record at Nurburgring, Germany’s famous race circuit, to become the fastest production car in the world! The NISMO version of the GT-R that set the record is all new for 2015, and adds an even more powerful engine to the top of the lineup. But the really impressive thing is that this NISMO version, exactly as it ran at “the Ring” can be owned by anyone right here in the Atlanta area. Anyone with enough guts, that is.
2015 Nissan GT-R First Impressions
From the outside, the 2015 Nissan GT-R doesn’t look all that different from the current 2014 model. But look a little closer and you’ll see some subtle differences – especially on the NISMO version. The aerodynamic trim upgrades and carbon-fiber wing that looks like it was designed for a fighter jet are dead giveaways. Where you really notice the difference though is once you’re behind the wheel.
Nissan engineers have improved the suspension across all tri levels of the GT-R, making for what they call a more “versatile” driving experience across different road conditions. There is also an active noise-cancelling system and more sound dampening than in previous models. Steering and brake components were also improved in the effort towards making the GT-R a more practical car for daily driving – say back and forth from Snellville or Conyers to Atlanta. Now that would be a nice commute, right?
2015 Nissan GT-R Performance
The 2015 Nissan GT-R is still powered by a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 that puts out an incredible 545-horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque. The 6-speed dual-clutch auto/manual transmission transfers power to an all-wheel drive system that is borrowed directly from Formula racing.
But where the engineers went more than a little nuts is with the NISMO version of the new GT-R. Using a combination of larger turbo and air intake channels, the output rating for this beast increases to a mind-blowing 600-horsepower and with 481 lb-ft of torque. This results in a 0-60 time of less than 3.0 seconds!
For the performance car and racing geeks out there (you know who you are), the front suspension of the 2015 GT-R has been tweaked as well. New front links increase both the straight-line and cornering trail of the caster, adding to cornering stability. That, plus improved Bilstein shocks and new Dunlop SP tires with stiffer sidewalls, all combine to make this one incredible rocket-ship of a race car.
For anyone who is seriously considering purchasing one of these amazing marvels of race engineering, they will be available later in 2014. For now however, drop by and see us here at Nissan of Athens. We love to talk specs with car enthusiasts and will share as much information with you about the new GT-R as you want.
