Based on the Nissan D21 Hardbody Pickup the original Desert Runner was an option package for the standard cab, short bed, 4x4 pickup truck that offered a custom offroad package with special paint and equipment similar to Nissan's Baja race team.
Based on photographic evidence, Desert Runner equipment showed some variability during production and modification.
Production of the Desert Runner was limited and actual survivors rare, and in 2013, at 25 years old, the Desert Runner will be considered a "classic".
